Two rival gangs are trying to fix horse races and a jockey is attacked and left for dead in a stage-managed car crash. An insurance investigator makes routine enquiries into the "accident" and one of the gang leaders feels threatened by this and takes counter measures.

Anne Maitland, a female lawyer, receives an unexpected late-night visit from ex-boyfriend Guy Ransome. She agrees to let him sleep on the sofa but he must leave the next morning. When he returns home he finds that his girlfriend has been murdered. His former lover agrees to defend him without telling the court that he spent the night with her. Complications ensue.

Jailed ex-fighter Donavan Wallace strikes a deal with the prison warden for early parole - he is to go into a town to pick up a mysterious crate. He finds himself framed for the murder of a local waitress but before being thrown behind bars once again he is able to retrieve, and then hide, the crate. Donavan manages to break free from jail but finds himself pursued by various conspirators who are after the contents of the crate

In the very early days of WWII, a young London journalist meets a mysterious woman who offers him just what he was after - a lot of free love. But when he tries to get to know her better, things turn nasty and he becomes a target of some homicidal characters with apparent links to a high-level political conspiracy. This is a cracking homage to Hitchcock's 39 Steps, re-working some obviously borrowed situations to great effect and in an ultimately much darker story. A 3-part mini-series, it was directed by Ben Bolt (who a decade later made Forgotten, one of the best crime mini-series ever) and scripted by David Pirie (creator of the equally impressive Murder Rooms) from the novel by John Mair. Lots of snappy dialogue here among other pleasures: 'What name did you use?' - 'Chips. I wanted to hear them say goodbye.'

Prizefighter Jimmy Nolan, facing an opportunity to get a championship fight, is knocked out when he sustains what is apparently a permanent injury to his arm. From there, Nolan`s path leads downhill. He is drawn into a romance with a nightclub entertainer, then is framed on a theft charge by a jealous suitor. After his prison term, Nolan makes a spectacular comeback in a fight which proves his courage and integrity, while disproving the fallacy about the old sports adage that "they never come back."

Junipero Serra, a Franciscan theologian and scholar, abandons his homeland at the age of 37 and sails to America to found missions in the unexplored region of California.

"We'll Never Turn Back" was filmed in Mississippi in 1963 during the dangerous voter registration drives of that era. Amzie Moore, a Mississippi NAACP activist escorted the film maker through rural Mississippi interviewing share croppers and activists in the voter registration campaign. Appearing in the film are Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) leaders Julian Bond, Bob Moses, Fannie Lou Hamer, Charles McLaurin as well as other local civil rights leaders Curtis Hayes and Hollis Watkins. There are interviews with black farmers and share croppers on their experiences (often bloody) trying to register to vote.

Slip and Sach's boss, David J. Thurston, has allegedly committed suicide. Slip finds a book of matches with the name of a local nightclub on his boss' desk and finds out from Gabe that a gambling casino is being run out of it. Slip comes to the conclusion that the club had something to do with his boss' death and sets out to find his murderer. The boys get jobs at the club and Louie poses as a rich cattlemen as they gather the information to convict the murderers.
